We love love love this time of year! The butterflies are appearing, the weather is cooling and locals gather at some of the most fun events of the year. We are always happy to see you at our place, by the way. {Thanks to new resident Renee Johnson for snapping these photos.}

Eight is great!

We are always flattered when customers choose our place to celebrate special events. Beautiful Ellis and her buds had a big time celebrating her birthday last week. Her mom is local photographer Jackie Ward and captured Ellis so beautifully on her blog, so check it out. Happy Birthday, little lady!

In a land far, far away...

We have a babysitter named Kelsey who became much more than just someone who helped us out occasionally - she became a part of our family. She and her boyfriend Mark have embarked upon the journey of a lifetime traveling abroad for four months. They began their trip in Delhi and will eventually make their way to other exciting places I've never heard of - like Pushkar - and then to some I have, like Nepal and Vietnam. We miss Kelsey terribly, but are so happy she's getting to see the world. Here are some recent photos from her adventures. Incidentally, her Dad and Mom run 30a.com, so I know they'll be proud she's sporting her 30A shirt!

Goodbye, sweet little store

This is a final farewell to Movies by the Sea. I think I have been putting off this post because I didn't want to admit it's really over. We can't express our appreciation enough to those of you who supported us during our five and a half years. We met some of the most wonderful people at the store - many of whom are our best friends today.

Over the years, we had so many great employees. I'm going to try and list them all: Cami, Danette, Jenna, Kenna, David, Claire, Bess, Heidi, Erika, Amber, Jonah, Justin, JD, Meredith, Calvin, Ruthie, Suzanne, Becca, Carla, Lee, Phillip & Rachel {Please forgive me if I forgot anyone!}. They were all a special part of making Movies by the Sea what it was. We are thrilled that many of them are still part of our lives as friends and even as employees at Pizza by the Sea.

Special thanks to our assistant manager, Cami Ellis. She lived and breathed this place for two years and treated Movies by the Sea like it was her own. We trusted her implicitly and knew our place was in good hands when we weren't around. She knew locals by name and they loved {love} her. She was especially great with kids and we look forward to the day she becomes a Mommy herself. We will miss you so much, Cami.♥

Also, we are so grateful to Marla Carter and Lesley Isacks for their awesome photography that filled the walls over the years.

Thank you for the stories you've shared with us over the past few weeks once you knew we were closing. All of your kind words have meant so much. And thanks for telling us you will miss Movies by the Sea. We will, too.

Goodbye, sweet little store.

Kim

Leo Casas, owner of Braulio Casas Architects, made us aware of a local in need of help. Her name is Kim Estes. The beauty of our community and the amazing people who live here is that we all come together in times of need. Following is the message we received from Leo:

Kim Estes is a dear friend and a 9-year employee of Bud & Alley's (currently Special Events and Wedding Coordinator). Recently, Kim was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome , a rare disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. Kim is currently paralyzed and at a specialty hospital in Pensacola. While many patients make a full recovery, it can be a very slow and difficult process, possibly lasting up to a year or longer. Hopes are high and prayers are strong. With that said, Bud & Alley’s is hosting a benefit to help relieve the financial burdens involved with Kim’s medical needs. We ask that you please join us for:

Party with a Purpose
Bud & Alley’s
Sunday, September 20th, 3 – 8 pm

$10 cover at the door (all proceeds going to the Kim Estes Assistance Fund)
** Free Food, Silent Auction and Live Bands including Cadillac Willy & Dread Clampitt **

Also, an account has been established in Kim’s name at the Wachovia Bank in Seaside for financial donations or they can be mailed to: Kim Estes Assistance Fund / P.O. Box 4898 / Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459.

Thank you for your help and for the continued prayers and support for Kim and her family.

Baby on Board

One of our favorite customers has a baby girl on the way. She refused a shower, so a few girls forced an impromptu lunch on her at the pizza place this week. We can't wait to meet this sweet baby girl when she arrives...any day now.
