Little Ansley is one of our favorite customers. She can sometimes be found at our place with her parents 2-3 times a week. We love watching Ansley and our other "regulars" grow up. Thanks Mitchell Family for supporting our family!

Brotherly {Pizza} Love
This is one of my all-time favorite photos. Friend and ridiculously talented photographer Marla of Marla & Shane captured the Pickren boys in a moment that perfectly illustrates our motto, "Feed Your Happy Face!" Look for it on our new and improved menu. Don't you just want to squeeze Ethan's cheeks? {far left}
Support locals helping Russian orphans
The Russia Mission team from the Point Washington United Methodist Church is holding a fund raiser and auction this Sunday, June 8th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at Fonville Press in Alys Beach. They are raising money to support their trip to Russia to visit the Sovetsk and Sanchurst orphanages. Our neighbor, Judy Stoddard, is among those making the journey. She and her husband adopted son Ben from Russia when he was a baby, so this will be an especially meaningful trip for her.
The suggested donation is $50 per person, and everyone is welcome. Attendees with small children can take advantage of child care provided by the youth group at the church, but arrangements must be made in advance. Call Judy at 830-2624 for more information. You won't want to miss this event. Great food, beverages, live music and a live auction that includes some FABULOUS items from local businesses. To view the Evite for this event, click here. If you are unable to make the event, but want to make a donation, please contact Judy.

Two grand openings, one great night
Two of our customers hosted grand openings for their new businesses Thursday. The first was The Village Boutique in Redfish Village, full of gorgeous women's clothes, shoes and accessories. Walking through the door, you'll think you've been transported to a hip boutique in New York City. Meredith Sullivan owns and operates the shop with her Mom, Linda, and for 30A, the clothes are very reasonably priced.
The second event was hosted at La Botana, located at Grand Isle in Seagrove Beach. The menu features fine Latin vintages and small plates, including killer guacamole, ceviche and tacos. The super-friendly owners say they'll be adding new items to the menu weekly, and as ex-Texans and extreme Mexican food lovers, we look forward to trying them all. Kudos to Designer Susan Massey for the posh interior, featuring an oversized chandelier, acrylic barstools and a white leather VIP booth. Note: I am no designer myself, so for all I know, the acrylic chairs are plastic and the leather may just be pleather. Nevertheless, it looks smashing, Baby!

Here's to good friends
Last night at the pizza place, it was truly a place for friends. The kids even started a hugfest. We loved that our new friends from Tennessee were there. We actually met them at Jazzfest when we shared some pizza with them on the lawn. They fell in love with the area like we all did on our first vacations here, so we're hoping they'll eventually become a part of our little community. Jay, Paige & little Harris - it was so nice to meet you!

Get your jazz on
We are excited to let everyone know that this Friday's concert at the Seaside Jazz Festival will be FREE. They've also added nightly ticket options instead of just a flat fee for the weekend's events. The Hot 8 Brass Band will be playing Friday night. Get your jazz on with the band here, then come to Seaside Friday to enjoy them live. More info about this weekend's events and tickets at SoWal.
Here's our little one showing off a few moves she learned from last weekend's stellar entertainers, including our favorite, Rebirth Brass Band.

Pizza, jazz & old friends
We love when the Good Family visits from Dallas. We met them during our corporate adventure at T.G.I. Friday's almost a decade ago. It was fun hanging out with them at the Seaside Jazz Festival this weekend, picnicking with pizza and watching the kiddos dance. Daddy Good is the Executive Sous Chef at Friday's and creator of Al's Fish Tacos, so next time you venture off of 30A, you'll have to try them. On another note, the powers that be let people into the Jazz Festival FREE the last two nights due to low attendance, so if you don't have plans tonight, stop by to support some amazing New Orleans musicians.

A night for locals
This may be one of the last nights you see our place full of locals with Memorial Day Weekend only days away. We especially enjoyed seeing Chris Pickren despite his unfortunate collision with Ron Romano on his bike a few days earlier at the Cobine's two-wheeled vehicle scavenger hunt. It was quite a fun event {for those who didn't conclude the evening donning ice packs}.

A mother of a weekend
Happy {late} Mother's Day! Okay, the truth is that I really just wanted an excuse to show off my Mother's Day present. I am so grateful to my sweet husband and baby girl for the coolest bike ever. I love my new bike, but I REALLY love my family. Today we are celebrating the day he asked me to marry him on the beach in Seagrove six years ago. He actually wrote "Marry Me" in the sand. We were on vacation from Dallas and had no idea we would eventually live in this magical place. {Thank you for indulging my personal moment and the plethora of wheels on our front porch in the photos.} On another note, please come eat lots of pizza so he can pay for my extravagant gift. :)

Fairwell Alyssa
Many of you know Alyssa, who has worked at Pizza by the Sea since the day we opened. Well respected and loved by fellow employees and local customers, she is a hard-working, soft-spoken, sweet little Texas gal. Unfortunately for us, she has decided to trade in her flip flops for cowboy boots and is moving back to Dallas to pursue her education. We will miss you, Alyssa, and we wish you the best!

Prodigal gumball machine returns home
Some of you may remember that our gumball machine mysteriously disappeared at Christmastime. We are happy to report that it has returned home, albeit with a couple of bruises that must heal, but it should be back in business soon. Shame on the ex-employee who stole it when no one was around, but huge thanks to the stellar South Walton Police Department for finding it!

Best Pizza in Sowal
We are thrilled to let everyone know that Pizza by the Sea was just voted the Best Pizza in Sowal (South Walton), according to Sowal Scene. Thanks to everyone who voted. We are so honored.
Thank you Nancy Drew
Whimsical, accomplished and kind artist Nancy Drew surprised us by dropping off this coloring page. Nancy's work can be found throughout our area, especially in Seaside. We will have the coloring pages at the pizza place soon so your little ones can create their own masterpieces. Thank you Nancy!!!

Nice to meet you
Sorry we've been out of touch on the blog. To reward our very hard-working employees, we decided to close for a week to give everyone a break before the season starts. Our family hopped in the car for a very quick trip to Disney World to introduce our little one to Mickey and Minney. It was a great trip, but it's always nice to come home. We actually came up with some new pizzas while we were away, so look for those to hit the menu soon.
